The island's iconic capital, Ibiza Town, is the place to stay if you want to experience the cultural heart of the White Isle. Located on the southeastern tip of Ibiza, it's full of history as well as and all the modern conveniences of a cosmopolitan city. It boasts shops, pop-up luxury boutiques, cafes, restaurants, bars and nightclubs as well as its very own local beaches in Talamanca and Figueretas.
Ibiza Town's old centre, also known as 'Dalt Vila' (Upper Town) is a maze of medieval cobbled streets that run across a hill dominated by the city's Gothic cathedral. Declared a UNESCO world heritage site, this is the place to come to experience the island's rich history and its hippy heritage with the most original shops, restaurants and bars at your doorstep. There is a great selection of charming boutique hotels inside converted townhouses within the medieval walls.
The ultra-modern area of Ibiza Town's marina is where the rich and famous come to play. Full of fine restaurants and trendy nightclubs that overlook the superyachts berthed in the port of Ibiza Magna Marina, here you have your choice of modern luxury hotels. The perfect place to stay for a night out in the city.
Talamanca and Figueretes are the closest beach resorts from Ibiza Town, located to the north and the south of the city respectively. While Figueretes is reachable on foot from town, facilities here are quite basic, mainly made up of budget apartment blocks. Talamanca, on the other hand, is a hotspot for luxury beach hotels and a very popular destination for families. The beautiful sandy beach is backed by a lovely wooden boardwalk dotted with restaurants, beach clubs and fabulous modern hotels.

Ibiza's northern area is the island's best-kept secret. Still quite wild and untamed, there are no big towns or resorts, only small villages like Sant Miquel and its port-side sister town of Port de Sant Miquel, as well as a few resorts popular with families such as Portinatx. Nature here is quite breathtaking, with Mediterranean forests that hide the rugged northern coast where small coves open up unveiling beautiful secluded beaches.
The rustic town of Sant Miquel de Balansat was built surrounding its whitewashed medieval church, the village's main attraction together with the summer weekly market. A couple of artisanal shops and international restaurants can be found here as well as a selection of stylish boutique hotels and the celebrity favourite Hacienda Na Xamena.
Originally a fishing port, Port de Sant Miquel lies at the bottom of a sheltered cove, surrounded by magnificent cliffs. Now turned into a small beach resort, it is very popular among families as there are plenty of restaurants and bars on offer, as well as watersports. The beach is lined with hotels and apartment blocks while the forests that back the town hide some gorgeous villas.
The small beach resort of Portinatx attracts those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Ibiza's famous nightlife. This quiet area offers a wide range of facilities including bars, restaurants and shops, as well as three beautiful beaches ideal for practicing watersports. There are a few charming hotels perfect for couples and apartment blocks very popular with families, as well as a handful of child-friendly hotels with lots of facilities for the little ones.

The east coast of Ibiza is another haven of peace and quiet, attracting those who are looking for a relaxing holiday as well as families with children. This area is known for its divine sandy coves, including Cala San Vicente, Cala Boix, Cala Llenya, Cala Nova or Cala Llonga, as well as the hippy markets of Las Dalias and Punta Arabí which retain the authentic leisurely feel of the old Ibiza.
Ibiza's western coast hosts a series of coves that open up into small calas or larger beaches. Most of these are backed by quiet, family-friendly resorts, from the northern village of Cala San Vicente to Cala Llonga, closer Ibiza Town. They offer a good choice of bars, restaurants, while accommodation comes in the shape of family-friendly hotels and luxury villas perched on outcrops atop the surrounding hills.
The island's third largest town after Ibiza Town and San Antonio, Santa Eulalia offers a more relaxed pace of life than the other two making it great for families. Well-known for its gastronomic offering, lively cultural scene and boutique shops, the town has a nice sea promenade that surrounds its white sandy beach. Accommodation here ranges from contemporary 5-star hotels with luxury facilities to quaint rural fincas in the neighbouring countryside.

The area south of Ibiza Town is notorious worldwide for its large sandy beaches and unbeatable clubbing scene. This is the area to choose if you want to experience the infamous Ibizan holidays that all the youngsters dream of: days on the beach and nights in the clubs.
Just to the south of Ibiza Town is the popular beach resort of Playa d'en Bossa. A mecca for those who love dance and electronic music as it is home to some of the best superclubs on the planet. Located in the south west of the island, it is close not only to Ibiza Town but to some of the best beaches on the south coast, some of them with views over the magical Es Vedra. This is one of the prime locations to rent a high-end villa in Ibiza.

The west of the island is home to some of the most authentic villages in Ibiza, Santa Agnes and Sant Mateu, which have retained their rustic charm but also to Ibiza's largest party town, San Antonio.
The second largest town on the island, San Antonio has the liveliest atmosphere in Ibiza thanks to its array of restaurants, bars, beach clubs and legendary nightclubs. This is also the home of some of the best sunsets on the White Isle, not for nothing is its promenade called the 'Sunset Strip'. There are tons of things to do here, but party boats and watersports are particularly popular. Hotels here tend to cater for the party people, although there are also a few family-friendly resorts right by the seaside.

The lesser-known area of central Ibiza encompasses the island's original rural area. Almond trees, Mediterranean forests and bushes, and vineyards grow inland. Traditional towns like San Rafael, well known for its pottery and its underground clubbing scene, or Santa Gertrudis where artists and hippies still dwell are well worth a visit.
Accommodation here comes mainly in the form of finca hotel, renovated old farmhouses that offer rustic-chic rooms, gourmet restaurants and extensive gardens with infinity swimming pools. Perfect for those searching for some peace and quiet or visitors who want to explore the authentic Ibiza.
Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera is 12km north of Ibiza Town, located in the middle of the island surrounded by rich countryside and fruit trees, (hence the name).
Heading out north west on the main road from Ibiza to San Antonio, after 7km, lies the small village of San Rafael.
Set back inland, 17km north east of Eivissa, is the small village of San Lorenzo. It's an attractive traditional village with an 18th century church and a few houses.
The pretty village of San Miguel is usually bypassed as tourists head straight for the coastal resort of Puerto de San Miguel.
The tiny village of San Mateu d'Albarca is one of the smallest on the island. Located 19km north of Eivissa, this tiny village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and lots of vineyards.
Jesús is a lovely residential village situated 2km northeast of Ibiza town. There are a few local shops here such as a butchers and dry cleaners etc, plus a lovely church (Nostra Mare de Jesús).
Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera (of the fruits) was, as the name suggests, once famed for its orchards and the fruit produced on the fertile acreage surrounding it. These days although the area is still farmed, the town itself is far more famous for its boutiques and bars than it’s farmyards.
Exploring the island will make your holiday more special, memorable and more authentic.
If you’ve got the time and the inclination to do a little exploring of the island beyond the beaches and the clubs, if you want to see a simpler slice of Ibizan life away from the two main towns then you should take a few hours and go for a wander around pretty and prosperous Sant Josep.
It’s impossible to visit Ibiza Town and not see Dalt Vila, the walls of the fortified old town rise up above the rest of the streets leading the eye ever upwards to the Cathedral perched at the summit, over looking the port, the new town and out to sea.
If you’ve ever dreamed about handing in the keys to your everyday life and moving across the water to the White Isle for a simpler, sunnier lifestyle then a visit to San Carlos will surely push you over the edge.
High in the pine covered hills of Ibiza’s under populated north lies Sant Miquel, the largest settlement at this end of the island. Still not large by any stretch of the imagination, Sant Miquel is a quiet little rustic town in which Ibizan life goes on seemingly oblivious to the hordes of tourists sweeping the rest of the island.
