Past San Rafael, above San Antonio, is the small village of Santa Agnes, only 18km north west of the town of Ibiza, this is really in the sticks.

It's a nice place to drive through if you have car and are exploring the island, but not much to stop for. There's an early 19th century church, a small café serving home-made dishes and beautiful surrounding fields of almond and olive trees.

History & Culture in Santa Agnes de Corona

The town church dates back to 1812 and is dedicated to Saint Agnes. Built as part of the religious reforms made by the first Bishop of Ibiza (Bishop Abad y Lasierra), it contains a sculpture of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary which also dates back to 1812.

Sights & Attractions in Santa Agnes de Corona

Passing through the protected area of Es Amunts with its rolling countryside and fields of orange, lemon and almond trees, you can understand why you might be drawn back to the area during the 'blossom season' in January and February.

If you happen to be visiting Ibiza out of season then walking through these fields is a sight to behold. Many Ibizans gather here during the full moons of January and February when the blossom seems to radiate under the moonlight.

The church here is simple but beautiful. The interior is not as exciting or elaborate as some of the other churches in Ibiza, but the exterior is beautifully white washed and is quite the sight to enjoy as you sip your coffee on the near by terrace of the Can Cosmi restaurant.

Dining in Santa Agnes de Corona

The best place (possibly in Ibiza!) for a Spanish omelette - if you're passing through Santa Agnes then make sure to stop at Can Cosmi and sample some food with the locals.

Things to do in Santa Agnes de Corona

The entire western area of the island in popular for road biking. The roads are quieter than in the east and you can really get out into the countryside here. The roads that pass through Santa Agnes wind their way through the olive and almond groves and can be especially fragrant with blossom in the spring time.
