night lights in san antoni

1. Sant Antoni (San Antonio)]

Location
Sant Antoni

San Antonio is the town by which many people define Ibiza. During the 1980's the town hit a development boom, as tourists (mainly English), flocked in their thousands to visit the sunny resort and dance the night away.

As a result, hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants have sprung up along most of the coastline. The areas around San Antonio also have some stunning beaches and some quieter bays and coves if you want to escape the crowds.

2. Cala Llonga Beach Resort

Location
Cala Llonga

As you turn off the main road into Cala Llonga, you could be mistaken for this being a country club with its rather official looking walled entrance. It is however, a delightful family resort that is buzzing with life.

As you drive through the town you'll find the streets lined with various cafés and restaurants, as you get closer to the beach the shops begin to sell buckets and spades, inflatables and all the things that you will need to make your beach holiday complete. They might not quite have caught up with the wave of pretty boutique shops hitting the island but you will be well serviced with a pharmacy supermarket and tourist shops.

The bay is extremely sheltered on all sides and reaches out quite far before it meets the open ocean, so bathing is fairly safe in the shallow waters here. There are always a number of yachts moored off the coast and many accommodation blocks surrounding the beach so you probably won't need to travel far each morning.

As well as relaxing on the beach you can be a little more adventurous here and turn your hand to things such as parasailing, scuba-diving, windsurfing, paddle boarding and much more. And there is always the option of bat and ball, or a game of volleyball on the go.

3. Santa Eularia des Riu (Santa Eulalia)

Location
Santa Eularia

Situated 15km north along the east coast from Ibiza town is the charming municipality of Santa Eularia. This area has a slower and more relaxed pace of life than its neighbours of Ibiza town and San Antonio.

There are beaches, markets and charming villages, making this an attractive destination for families and travellers wanting an alternative to nightlife.

The pretty town centre is based around a pretty promenade, where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and cafés, plus a stunning white sandy beach. Well known for its gastronomy this is a good spot to pick a restaurant and order your fill of delicious seafood.

Shopping here is also very good with some lovely boutiques in the town, but can be pricey around the exclusive marina area. The beautiful old town is worth the 15-minute walk from the new town and is home to the church of Puig de Missa

view to the south of talamanca in ibiza

4. Talamanca

Location
Ibiza Town

A pleasant beach for families to enjoy with plenty of facilities and calm and tranquil waters, ideal for bathing.

Quieter than many of the other resorts in Ibiza, especially San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa, it also helps that there are no towering hotel buildings along the beach. The other reason that Talamanca stands out from many other areas is that it is open all year round. Probably due to the proximity of Ibiza Town.

There is no real town to Talamanca, what was probably once a defined and separate place to Ibiza Town has been developed to the point where the border between the two is invisible. Now what is defined as ‘Talamanca’ is the resort area directly bordering Talamanca beach and possibly part of the marina promenade back to Ibiza Town.

Talamanca has everything you need for your holiday, a well equipped resort town it's an easy walk to the biggest town in Ibiza, you can't fail to find everything you need. Tourist information centres are dotted around and are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

portinatx ibiza

5. Portinatx

Location
Portinatx

The most northerly point of Ibiza is the town of Portinatx, 29km north of Ibiza Town. In a bid to attract tourists, the area has become quite developed.

There are three lovely beaches in the area, these can get quite busy during summer and you will find plenty to do including water sports. There are a wide choice of restaurants although not particularly Spanish in essence. This is very much a resort for package tourists and families, a place for convenience, activities and comfort all in one.

beach resort cala vadella ibiza

6. Cala Vadella Beach Resort

Location
Cala Vadella

The steep road that leads down into Cala Vadella from the south shows you a glimpse of the beauty that awaits you below. Passing beautiful white washed villas with colourful windows and roofs you are led down to a surprisingly lively and picturesque resort.

The bay itself is small and sheltered but has a good sized beach which is backed with shops and plenty of restaurants. There is a cluster of apartments and accommodation surrounding the beach which makes this the perfect family resort - only steps away from the beach, restaurants and other amenities.

7. Platja d'en Bossa (Playa d'en Bossa)

Location
Ibiza Town

This a resort mainly for clubbers and also families on package holidays. If you're looking for more history and culture then it's probably best to stay closer to Ibiza Town itself.

As you fly into Ibiza airport you can see the coastline and sea of umbrellas on the beach. Located 3.5km south along the coast from Ibiza town, this is a fun place where lying on the beach is coupled with dance music, water sports and cheap meals. There are plenty of restaurants and hotels here and it's a good base in between Salinas and Ibiza Town.

Es Canar street ibiza

8. Es Canar

Location
Es Canar

The cheaper alternative to many of the bigger beach resorts and popular towns, Es Canar has it all for those who want a great fun packed holiday...but on a budget.

The town itself has a real buzz with plenty of restaurants, cafés, bars, shopping and some lovely beach clubs. It's also the closest town to the wonderful Punta Arabi Hippy market, which is a mere five minutes walk from the centre of town. The town itself surrounds a tiny harbour and long sandy beach which offers plenty of water sports and sun bathing.

figuertas beach ibiza

9. Figueretes]

Location
Ibiza Town

You can reach the area of Figueretes if you walk all the way through Ibiza town, away from the port.

This area lies between Playa d'en Bossa and Ibiza town. It's not the prettiest area and is mainly built up of cheaper apartment blocks and hotels, as a more budget option to Playa d'en Bossa. There are a few small local shops, cheaper eateries, a beach and the funky Es Vive Hotel. The promenade however, is lined with palm trees and offers wonderful views over the sea from the many cafés and restaurants that line it.
