Just off the western coast of the island lies an small archipelago of uninhabited islands. The largest of these is Illa de sa Conillera, literally translated at "rabbit island", due to its residents.

The islet has an interesting history, at one point is was used by pirates to attack San Antonio and now folklore says witches collect materials from there. It's possible to catch a boat across to the island from San Antonio, to have a walk around and to see the views from the 19th century lighthouse at Punta de sa Torre.

History & Culture in Illa de sa Conillera

A lighthouse was built on the island in 1857, however it was thought to have been inhabited, or at least used as shelter, for many years prior to this. A few years ago three skeletons were found on the islands. They were carbon dated to the early part of the sixteenth century and are believed to be the remains of pirates who had been taken to the island for execution.
