featured in News & reviews Author Ana Hernández, Ibiza Editor Updated

The small, paradisiacal island of Formentera is fastly becoming a haven for foodies thanks to its high-quality local produce, cosmopolitan atmosphere and the presence of creative, young chefs who have chosen this piece of heaven as their home.

Formentera restaurants are not only magnets for the rich and famous who come to the island to relax and savour its pleasures, but several of its eateries have also been awarded prestigious international prizes.

The 2017 Michelin guide mentioned four restaurants, highlighting their local fresh produce: Ca Na Joana, Pinatar, Can Dani and Es Caló. The latter, located in Calo de Sant Agusti, has now been chosen as the 4th best place to eat in Spain and the 23rd in Europe by Trip Advisor users. Serving traditional Mediterranean cuisine, travellers especially love their seafood paella, lobster, salt-crust sea bass and extensive wine list.

Local wines have also been hailed as some of the best in the continent. Early this year, Es Monestir by Terramoll winery received the sought-after Silver Bacchus distinction. No wonder Formentera attracts passionate gourmets from all around the world!
