Just Three Days to Swim Around the Island of Ibiza

Ultra distance swimmer Jaime Caballero takes on the challenge

The Spanish open-water swimmer from San Sebastian, in the very north of Spain, is well known for his long distance swimming challenges and this one is no different.

Attempting to circumnavigate the island, a total distance of 140km, in just three stages, Jaime Caballero will be undertaking this swim alone, except for his support boat. He intends to swim round the island anti-clockwise, beginning and ending in a location around the Playa d'en Bossa area.

Caballero's plan is to swim the longest stage on the first day, where he will travel along the east coast, around the north of the island, and end day one at the beaches of San Miguel. A total of 55km. The next two days, although being shorter in distance, will be no less intense, with between 10 to 12 hours spent in the water each day.

The weather will of course be a worry over the coming days as Caballero plans to begin his attempt tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. Wind and strong currents could dramatically affect the challenge, however he will need to await up to date information as he swims and make decisions based on this whilst he is in the water.

As always this ultra-athlete will be raising money for the Spanish charity ELA - a charity that supports people with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrigs disease), also known as MND (motor neurone disease) in the UK.

We wish him luck with this latest challenge!
