Make your holidays in Ibiza healthier this year

Here are our top picks for healthy eating whilst on the sunny island of Ibiza

There is more than sobrassada and ensaimada in Ibiza. Well-known for its Mediterranean cuisine and produce, you can never go wrong with local olive oil, lobster or almonds. But the island also offers a wide range of places to buy organic produce and enjoy vegan or vegetarian food.

Organic markets

The best place to pick up organic produce is at some of Ibiza’s markets that have a dedicated section.

Sant Josep de Sa Talaia market

Your best bet is the organic produce and artisan market celebrated every Saturday from June to October in the town of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia. It offers a great selection of stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, wine, bread, olives, oil and cheese, as well as traditional arts and crafts.

Forada market

Forada Market also takes place on Saturdays, although this one is celebrated throughout the year. Hosted in front of Can Tixedo Restaurant, on a road that connects Sant Antoni, Santa Agnes and Sant Rafael, here you can buy locally-grown organic produce and cosmetics.

Mercat Vell

Ibiza Town's Mercat Vell also hosts stalls selling organic produce inside its gorgeous Neoclassical building. Go to Plaça de la Constitució, right in the heart of Dalt Vila, for fruits, vegetables, meat and conserves.

Eco supermarkets and organic shops

If you don’t want to wait for market days to get hold of organic food, fear not, various health food shops are also popping up all over the island.

Ibiza Town offers the largest selection with eco-supermarkets like Biorganic and Veritas, both in Avinguda d'Espanya, or Natural in the city's old town. Most of them also offer cold-pressed juices, supplements and other goodies.

Healthy food to go

Perhaps the most popular healthy food chain on the White Isle is Passion, a collection of cafes and delis that can be found in Ibiza Town (where there is also a small deli), San Jose, Santa Eulalia, San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa

Created by Lana Love in 2006 as a juice bar, the concept has evolved to embrace the vegan, macrobiotic and raw trend that's causing a stir worldwide.

Their philosophy is to offer "good, natural, wholesome food using the best quality ingredients" which means that you will find cold-pressed juices, superfood salads, nutritious cakes and a lot more.

Vegetarian restaurants

The island has a nice selection of vegetarian and organic restaurants.

Santa Gertrudis

A hidden gem in Santa Gertrudis, in the centre of the island, Wild Beets serves only raw, vegan, gluten-free and plant-based food created by nutrition specialist Cliff Grubin. It doesn't get any healthier than this as they claim that "each item on their menu has been carefully calibrated to ensure maximum nutrient density and flavour."

After-party boost

For an energy-boosting breakfast or a power-lifting lunch, there is no better place than The Skinny Kitchen

Located in the party hub of Sant Antoni, this cafe's motto "eat clean, rave dirty" embodies Ibizan culture.

Hailed as the best place in town to cure a hangover, their ‘clean’, fresh dishes will leave you ready for the next party no matter when you wake up, as they serve food all day long.
