Experience traditional Ibizan rural life in this converted country house

featured in Sights & sites

In a pretty Ibizan house is the Ethnographic Museum of Ibiza. Permanently on display are artefacts that demonstrate how life was in Ibiza in the past.

Named Can Ros, this traditional rural house has a typical "porxo" (main room), kitchen, bedrooms, oil mill, balcony, well and cistern.

Apart from this lovely traditional house, visitors can see a vast collection of tools, objects and clothes representing Ibizan rural world. This includes clothing, jewellery, farming and fishing implements, toys and musical instruments. A fascinating insight into the past of Ibiza.

Visitor comments

  • "Nice look at rural early to mid last century life on the island. Unusual jewellery and clothes. History of the folks and traditions" - Trip Advisor
  • "Having just visited the Puig Missa church, this museum is just nearby. It was 3 euros to go in but gives a good idea of how the people used to live many years ago. There are a lot of very old implements and the layouts are well done." - Trip Advisor
  • "Some museums start off great but become a chore. Not this one. You could view it in an hour, but at a push, see everything in 10 minutes. Its location means tranquil, with great views and photo opps. Everything looks new (obviously not the exhibits) and fresh - some museums look like the museum belongs in a museum!" - Trip Advisor
