Ibiza fashion in Paris
Adlib designers promoted in Paris 'Who's Next' fair
Eight Ibizan designers will head to the French capital from September 2nd to 5th for the prestigious 'Who's Next' fashion fair. Two artisan makers of espardenyes (local espadrilles) and capells (traditional hats) will accompany them.
Adlib fashion has its origins in the arrival of the hippy movement to the White Isle during the 1970s and is characterised by the use of natural, light, flowing material and white colour, decorated with embroidery and lace. Yugoslavian princess Smilja Mihailovitch gave birth to the motto of Adlib: "Dress as you please, but with style".
Among the participants at the Parisian fair are Charo Ruiz, Ibimoda, Tres Ibiza and Vintage Ibiza. Craftswomen Loreto Mayol and Isabel Prats Boned will showcase Ibiza's traditional dress and demonstrate how it is made. Especially interesting are the complicated capells de floc, white wide-bream hats made with palm leaves which can reach a price of €1,200.
