Traditions held fast last night as hundreds of people took to the beaches of Ibiza and lit bonfires in celebration of this fantastic Spanish event.

Being the shortest and most magical night of the year there were numerous events organised for last night. One of the most popular of these was the celebrations on the beach at Talamanca. Here the council has been organising a special event for the last five years and it is becoming more and more successful. With music from Migjorn and Toc Rock Orchestra, bonfires along the beach for people to jump over and the traditional dessert of Macarrons de Sant Joan (curly pasta cooked in milk, sugar, cinnamon and lemon rind) the festivities were in full swing until 1am.

The beach of Figueretas saw a slightly more traditional and family orientated event with the council organising children's activities, traditional dancers in costumes and people dressed as demons to run between the fireworks. There was fantastic music by local blues band Bluesmafia i is Saligardos.

So as the embers die down this morning and the hang over subside we can wake up with the knowledge that summer has well and truly begun! And we can look forward to doing it all again next year...
