From July 1st to August 31st 2019, all vehicles entering Formentera must be registered online in advance. There'll be a limit of cars and motorcycles allowed on the island to preserve its environment and peacefulness.

According to the local authorities, population in Formentera can triple during the summer months with traffic increasing at a similar rate. Therefore, in July and August, a maximum of 12,450 vehicles, which is the highest count recorded last summer, will be allowed on Formentera's roads. Of these, there will be specific caps for rental vehicles and cars and motorbikes belonging to Ibiza residents. Quads, caravans and motorhomes won't be allowed on the island. Formentera locals will be exempt from this quotas, as will zero-emission and hybrid vehicles.

All vehicles must be registered in advance. To do so, visit the Consell Insular de Formentera's website. You'll be charged €1 per day for cars and €0.50 for motorbikes, with a 50% discount applied to hybrid vehicles. There are no fees for zero-emission vehicles and Balearic residents. Permits will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, visit the Consell's website.
