When talking about the origins of rave culture, there is one event that pops up to mind: the legendary trip that Nicky Holloway, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling and Johnny Walker took to Ibiza in 1987. Inspired by this game-changing holiday, Irvine Welsh has written a TV series set on the White Isle, 'Ibiza87'.

The author of the novel 'Trainspotting', turned into a cult movie in 1996, knows the subject well as he has written several short stories on acid house and rave culture, including 'The Acid House'. Not only that, but Nicky Holloway, Paul Oakenfold and Danny Rampling are involved in the project providing the soundtrack to the story (and probably more than a few stories).

2017 marks the 30th anniversary of a trip that many hail as the birth of rave culture. In late August 1987, four friends from South London decided to go on a week-long holiday to Ibiza to celebrate Oakenfold's 24th anniversary renting a villa in San Antonio. Although this wasn't their first trip to the island, what they experienced here changed the contemporary music scene forever.

Once on the island, they discovered Amnesia, then an old farmhouse turned into a club with a wildly free atmosphere where people went when the other clubs shut as it was open until midday. DJ Alfredo was the resident and his unusual blend of music genres (as well as the ecstasy they tried for the first time there) opened a whole new world for the four young Londoners. Back in the UK, Paul opened Spectrum, Danny started Shoom and Nicky began Trip Club, kickstarting the acid house trend worldwide.

'Ibiza87' will recreate the trip that started what some have dubbed as the Second Summer of Love and the groundbreaking music scene that sprouted up thereafter.
