The best places to indulge in traditional tapas in Ibiza

Featured in: | Isha Sesay, Ibiza Reporter | Published

Food is central to the Spanish way of life and an expression of the country’s history and culture. Created through an outpouring of love in the kitchen, food is something to be shared among friends and family, complementing conversations and creating memories. Tapas, Spain’s most typical cuisine, is no different, and both locals and visitors commonly indulge in these small but flavoursome bites.

Ibiza is host to a number of charming tapas restaurants which are scattered throughout the island. Here, there is a real variety where Mediterranean fusions are experimented upon. Although new concepts and ideas are always emerging, there is something utterly comforting about stumbling across a traditional tapas menu. Signatory dishes are a warm reminder of Spain’s heritage and well recommended to sample during your holiday in Ibiza. Whether you fancy a quick snack or a light dinner, Ibiza has a selection of excellent traditional tapas restaurants to choose from.

El Zaguan Restaurant

Located in the heart of Ibiza Town and only a moment's walk away from its port, El Zaguan is one of the island’s oldest pinxto restaurants, serving traditional Basque tapas on individual cocktail sticks. With over 400 varieties, there is little wonder why the restaurant is frequented by locals, each wanting to taste their pick of the restaurant’s many delights. El Zaguan Restaurant serves both hot and cold dishes such as scrumptious croquetas and locally sourced jamón ibérico, all which are very reasonably priced. One of the unique things about El Zaguan Restaurant is that you pay according to the number of cocktail sticks left on your plate, a simple but fun way to enjoy an authentic dining experience in Ibiza.
