2017 yields best olive harvest in the history of Ibizan oil

Ibizan olive oil might not be as well-known as its neighbours from continental Spain but that is all going to change. This year's production has multiplied by five compared to 2016 and the quality is second to none.

This increase in production is due to a growth in this year's olive harvest, 208 tonnes compared to 2016's 44. More farmers have decided to plant olive trees making it a total of 110 hectares on the island while 3 new olive oil brands have been created in 2017, joining the 16 already existent.

Ibizan olive oil is well-known for its excellent quality. Due to the small size of their plantations, local growers have decided that the only way to compete against continental Spain's large production is to create the best olive oil possible. Other than being consumed in Ibiza, it is also exported to the continent where it is sold in gourmet specialised shops and prestigious restaurants.
